The ubiquitous red fox ranges throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Its colors help camouflage it on leafy forest floors and in tall grasses. Foxes hunt at night and have excellent hearing, perhaps contributing to the impression that they are sly creatures.

History: Genetic mapping has provided fascinating insights into the wanderings and adaptations of many of the worlds creatures, and the Red Fox is no exception. Although they are found throughout North American, Europe, and Asia, the North American version is actually a distinct species, which genetic mapping shows crossed the Bering Strait 400,000 years ago and went on to colonize the entire North American continent.

Scientific Name: Vulpes vulpes

Characteristics: This tiny fox figure is alert and adorable, perfect for forest projects, animal-themed parties, or classroom gifts. Sport teams can even use the fox for bracelets or charms.

Size: The Fox is approximately 1 inch long, about the size of a playing die.
